Young OP squad play some great rugby in closely fought game

The OP 2nd XV put in an excellent peformance away at Ealing with no kess than five current St Benedict's School pupils involved. Ealing scored early and maintained the lead for the whole game but the OPs kept pegging them back until some late tries flattered the score board for the considerably more experienced and organised team. Following plenty of introductions in the warm up, the OPs gelled fairly quickly to play some outstanding rugby and on another day could have had two or three more tries. The first OP try came following an outstanding break by the returning Stefan Rowell, his first game in two years following a serious hamstring injury. As the OPs maintained pressure in the Ealing half, Tomek Tsang managed to break through the Ealing defence before off-loading to find John Bordiss who scored an excellent try in the corner.

With the game still close, the OPs started the second half explosively with Tsang again pivotal, intercepting the pass to run in for his first try for the club on his debut. Later on in the second half the OPs scored their third try through the returning Daniel Porter who carried hard over the top of a couple of Ealing defenders to power his way to scoring under the posts.

It was an excellent performance from the boys. Bennies lads Tomek Tsang, Luis Gomez Rose, Ed Moss, Charlie Gray and Daniel Moore were all superb against sizeable opposition who apparently qualify as being Level 7. University students Carlos Gomez Rose, Will Poyntz and Robbie Renna made their mark too despite not having played much rugby recently. More experience in the form of Stefan Rowell, Mateo Markram, Jacob Bell, John Maddalena, Seb Oddi, Arthur Dow, Dan Porter and John Bordiss rounded out the squad as the boys played through the Spring sunshine with just one sub against a much larger opposition squad.
