Regional 2 Thames Round Up : Gameweek 8

Regional 2 Thames Round Up : Gameweek 8

James Sarek11 Nov 2025 - 12:09

Rounding up the weekend's action

We're now over a third of the way through the Regional 2 Thames season following the advent of Gameweek 8 - let's take a look at how the twelve sides in the division fared on the weekend.

Aylesbury 66-24 Oxford Harlequins II

Aylesbury returned to winning ways with a big win against Oxford Harelquins II despite some early resistance from the visitors, who came away with a valuable try bonus point.

Quins were the first to score before Aylesbury were able to respond with three tries from Jack Tominey, Casper Wise and Alex Shearer. A free flowing first half saw another 28 points as they went in at 35-19, Samuel Page and Benjamin Knight aiding the cause for the hosts.

A dominant second half allowed Aylesbury to pull away from the visitors with another five tries added, as both Tominey and Page bagged braces, Shearer collecting 19 points before being substituted just past the hour as his side eventually ran out 66-24 winners.

The victory allows Aylesbury to keep themselves very much in the hunt of the play-off places, occupying fifth position which would currently qualify them for the end of season knockout rounds ; they are on 29 points from eight games played.

Quins are certainly showing signs of life in attack and despite still being winless, may be encouraged by their ability to take bonus point from difficult fixtures and may target the teams around them to push themselves a little further up the table. They currently have 6 points and occupy the twelfth and final spot in Regional 2 Thames.

Beaconsfield 35-34 OPRFC

Beaconsfield converted a penalty kick with the last play of the match to end a dramatic 80 minutes with all five points against Old Priorians, in what was probably the match of the weekend.

In form Beaconsfield headed into a 15-0 lead just past the end of the first quarter before OPs began their ascent back into the game, starting with Rory Gaffney's try, quickly followed by captain Cathal Sheehan's effort ; a fourth try for the hosts meant a try bonus point with less than 40 minutes played, a Ross McIntosh penalty putting the Twisters just three points behind at half time at 20-17.

A tremendous start to the second half for Priorians saw them go into the final quarter with a 34-20 cushion, Sheehan getting a second as Pierre Goualin and Ethan Wetherell also got in on the act. However, a big momentum shift in the final ten minutes allowed Beaconsfield to score two tries, then were set up in front of the posts for three points in the 80th minute to cruelly deny OPRFC what would have been a very impressive win, 35-34 the final score.

This extends Beaconsfield's winning run to seven games, and they can very much count themselves as a contender for promotion, seeing as they are in third place with 35 points. Priorians still managed to take two points from this fixture and retain sixth place in the table with 24 points.

Harpenden 32-40 Belsize Park

A high scoring affair in Hertfordshire - featuring a hat trick for Harpenden captain Luke Boynes - saw Belsize Park return to Central London with all five points as Harpenden were denied a valuable second bonus point at Redbourn Lane.

Belsize recorded their first win against these opponents since 2018 as they continue their good form, ahead by 26-10 at the break before Harpenden staged a fightback of sorts through tries from Steven Mackenzie-Cardy and Boynes ; Park did enough to ward off any late threat and take the spoils.

Belsize are second in the table with 36 points, and may be keeping an eye on the Brunel v Beaconsfield result in the next round to see if they can return to the top of Regional 2 Thames. Harpenden, however, are still in the bottom half of the table, in eighth place with 17 points, though do have a five point cushion over ninth place Grasshoppers.

London Irish Wild Geese 19-47 Brunel University

Another weekend, another win for Brunel University, who failed to reach 50 points in a league fixture for only the second time in the campaign with a routine win against London Irish Wild Geese.

While Brunel have a 100% winning record, Irish have a 100% losing record in the league this year, taking nothing in terms of points from this game yet still able to occupy one of the designated relegation playoff spots, with 8 points from 8 games. Brunel have 40 points, though will face a tricky tie against Beaconsfield on the 22nd November, followed by Belsize Park the week after.

Teddington 52-34 Grasshoppers

A Tom Williams hat trick inspired Teddington to victory in Bushy Park against Grasshoppers, the full time result not telling the full story as a Hoppers comeback was quashed by the playoff chasing hosts.

Teddington stunned Grasshoppers with three early tries through Williams, Will Mavin and Josh McKiernan to lead 21-0 after fifteen minutes, Matt Coakley pulling one back on 25' to reduce arrears to 16 points. Sam Rawsthorne's try put Teddington 21 points ahead again. Louis Brown's converted effort made it 26-12 to the home side at half time.

Andy McGill's try for Grasshoppers early on in the second half brought them right back into the tie, aided by a yellow card to Teddington's Mavin with half an hour to play, Deja Olajide also scoring, Charlie Lecuyer successful with both conversions before a penalty with 55' played put Hoppers ahead at 29-26.

This appeared to stun Teddington into life as they largely dominated the final quarter, back at full quota which saw Williams cross twice more to secure the match ball, Mavin getting a second and Alfie Ransom also getting in on the act, Bob Beevers kicking 6 from 8 for twelve points from the boot too.

A late try by Lewis Perkins gave Grasshoppers the last laugh, yet they may be ruing a missed opportunity and are currently in a bit of limbo in ninth position with 12 points, five behind Harpenden in eighth and four ahead of London Irish Wild Geese in tenth ; they face a difficult opponent in Aylesbury on the 22nd at Syon Lane.

Teddington are in fourth with 31 points and are comfortably in contention for a playoff position in these relatively early stages.

Windsor 19-31 Marlow

Marlow came out on top in the Buckinghamshire derby with a four try win against Windsor, who remain in one of the relegation places.

A tight and scoreless first quarter finally gave way in Marlow's favour following some lax defence in the Windsor ranks, the lead doubled on the half hour through an excellent snaffle then some brilliant handling as the visitors went 70 metres to score.

Adam Bailes barraged his way through a number of would be tacklers to put Windsor on the board just before half time, 14-7 the score at half time ; they then levelled proceedings early on in the second, capitalising on a lack of Marlow organisation from a clearance and take the scenic route to the line.

Marlow retook the lead soon after as once again a lack of defensive line allowed a clear shot at the whitewash, but Windsor were proving to be a difficult side to shake off, a lovely punt through pounced on to make it 21-19 with a little over a quarter of the game left.

However, Marlow's repsonse was swift to wrap up a bonus point, before making sure of the five points with a penalty in the dying embers of the game to secure a valuable victory.

This take's Marlow up to 21 points in seventh place, Windsor perhaps thinking what could have been as they end up with nothing from the fixture, still in eleventh place with 7 points.

Rearranged Fixture Result - Teddington 26-52 Brunel University - 1st November 2025

An excellent second half for Brunel gave them the win in the rearranged fixture on the 1st November, though will be wary going forward having only held a seven point lead at half time.

Tom Williams put Teddington ahead on twenty minutes, Brunel responded with three tries to wrestle back control before Jacob Holt's try made it 19-12 not long before half time.

However, five tries for the Uxbridge outfit in the second half put the result beyond doubt, Teddington probably fairly happy to get a try bonus as Williams got one more, Sam Rawsthorne's last minute effort making sure that they ended the fixture with something.
