Regional 2 Thames Round Up : Gameweek 4

James Sarek6 Oct - 16:38

Rounding Up the weekend's action

The latest round of Regional 2 Thames is now completed, with all but one of the scheduled fixtures going ahead on Saturday afternoon ; let's review the weekend's action.

Aylesbury 29-28 London Irish Wild Geese

A dramatic last minute penalty kick by Alex Shearer ensured Aylesbury continued their winning start to the 2025/26 season and consigned London Irish Wild Geese to a fourth straight defeat, the three points giving the Buckinghamshire outfit a 29-28 win.

Irish were 14-12 ahead at half time and were able to add two more tries to their total in the second half - as were Aylesbury - before Shearer faced down the strong win to break Wild Geese hearts.

Aylesbury are second in the table after four games ; despite London Irish not having won a game, they have still accrued seven bonus points from their fixtures and as such are in ninth place.

Beaconsfield 65-17 Oxford Quins II

Captain Braiden Broughan scored a hat trick as Beaconsfield appear to have put their opening day loss to Aylesbury aside, winning their last three and beating an Oxford Quins II side that are also looking for their first victory of the season.

Alex Spring also got a brace as Beaconsfield scored eleven tries, taking them up to third in the table, while Quins sit in the relegation zone with three points on the board.

Grasshoppers 19-36 Marlow

A third loss in succession for Grasshoppers who were overpowered by an impressive Marlow who look to have picked up some momentum, taking a bonus point win in West London on Saturday.

Marlow took the lead after just two minutes, slicing through the defence following a scrum on the Grasshoppers 22 metre line, before making it 12-0 within ten minutes as they kicked deep into enemy territory. Two more tries followed for a handsome lead within half an hour, Callum McCormack getting one back for the hosts before half time.

Some degree of balance was restored in the second half by Grasshoppers, but only following another Marlow score, Matt Coakley and Chris Brown dotting down as Marlow also got a sixth try for a convincing 36-19 win.

Marlow move into the mid-table slot of sixth with ten points, while Grasshoppers are in tenth, their sole win coming on the opening weekend.

OPRFC 27-31 Belsize Park

Old Priorians threw away a 17-0 half time lead as Belsize Park scored with one of the last moves of the game to pull off an impressive comeback and retain their place at the top of the Regional 2 Thames table.

OPs led through Mishka Fibbens and Rory Gaffney's tries, along with a penalty from Will Taylor, before Belsize began to mount their challenge early on in the second half ; with ten minutes to go OPRFC still found themselves 27-17 up but indiscipline saw them concede two tries in the final five minutes to lose the match.

While Belsize are 1st, Old Priorians move down to eighth place.

Teddington P-P Brunel University

The weekend's stormy conditions put paid to the fixture between two of the early season pacesetters, Teddington and Brunel University, with the match likely to be rescheduled for later in the season.

Windsor 22-31 Harpenden

A second victory this term for Harpenden, doing enough to beat a Windsor side who remain on one point at the bottom of the league.

Harpenden move up to ten points and seventh place in a congested midtable, their previous win coming on the opening day against OPRFC.

That concludes this week's round up. For further fixtures and results, please visit the RFU website :
