Regional 2 Thames Round Up : Gameweek 14

James Sarek14 Jan - 21:10

Rounding up the weekend's action

Gameweek 14 of Regional 2 Thames is done and dusted - let's take a look at how the teams got on in the first round of fixtures for 2026.

Belsize Park 43-48 OPRFC

A remarkable game in Regent's Park saw Old Priorians get the better of Belsize Park, the match ending with high drama as the hosts were held up over the line to secure a famous victory for the Twisters.

An extremely back and forth affair, a 24-22 half time scoreline reflected the attacking nature of both teams, and the second half was no different. OPs looked to have made sure of the win with minutes to go at 48-36 - Rory Gaffney having bagged a hat trick - only for Belsize to come roaring back in the dying stages, scoring once before launching a final attack, bested at the last by OPs who managed to hold the ball up.

The five points takes OPRFC back up to fourth with 48 points from 14 games, Belsize Park one place and four points ahead with 52 from 13.

Brunel University 66-24 Teddington

Brunel's likely ascent to level 5 was given a further boost with a big win against Teddington, who were unable to match the attacking prowess of the current league leaders.

Teddington did find themselves only 12-7 down with near enough half an hour played, Thomas Pugh scoring the try, but were never really in the game following, 24-14 the closest they would get after Jack Valentine scored early in the second half.

Four tries in thirteen minutes for Brunel took them away from the visitors, though Teddington will be happy to have come away with a point from the trip to Uxbridge as Joshua Hagon and George Young crossed in the final ten minutes.

Brunel hold a six point lead at the top of the table with 67 points from 14 games, while Teddington drop down to fifth with 45 from 14.

Harpenden 45-12 Windsor

Harpenden's convincing victory against Windsor at home continues their move up the table, with four wins in their last five as Matthew Shaw's double helped them on their way to five points.

A 28-5 half time scoreline became 45-12 by full time with WIndsor unable to get any foothold in the fixture ; the home's side current form is amongst the best in the division and they are in 6th place, accruing 38 points from 14 games. Windsor, however, couldn't do anything to head towards survival and remain on 21 pointss from 14 games.

London Irish Wild Geese 34-30 Aylesbury

London Irish's generally miserable first half of the season took a positive turn for the start of 2026, claiming a vitally important win against top half Aylesbury, who are now beginning to see their playoff hopes fade, though there is plenty of time left in the season.

Aylesbury's main source of points came through James Phillips and Alex Shearer but it wasn't enough to deny Irish only their second win of the 2025/26 campaig ; Irish now have a fighting chance of moving their way out of the relegation playoff zone, with 19 points from their 13 games - a game in hand over the clubs around them.

Aylesbury are down to seventh with 37 from 14 and occupy the no man's land of safety between the the playoffs and survival.

Marlow P-P Grasshoppers

The scheduled fixture between Marlow and Grasshoppers was postponed due to a frozen pitch at Riverwoods Drive, rearranged to the 24th January.

Oxford Harlequins II 21-80 Beaconsfield

Braiden Broughan and Tyson Peters both went over for hat tricks for Beaconsfield in a twelve-try demolition of Oxford Harlequins II, the hosts now very much odds on to be automatically relegated from Regional 2 Thames.

Alongside Broughan and Peters' exploits, Freddie Hooper slotted twenty points, Beaconsfield very much looking like the most threatening prospect in terms of derailing Brunel's promotion hopes.

They are six points behind Brunel (61 from 14), Oxford a full 51 points behind them in last place with 10 points from 14 games.

That concludes this week's round up. For more results, fixtures and the league table, please visit the RFU website :
