OPRFC player Matt Ilube has been selected by Nigeria for the upcoming Rugby Africa Men's 7s, to be held in Mauritius across the weekend of the 21st and 22nd June.
The back - who predominantly plays at centre but can be utilised elsewhere in the back line - has already represented Nigeria on the international 7s circuit, at the same tournament, followed by full XV honours at the tail end of 2024, scoring a try on his debut versus Tunisia.
The Stallions have been drawn in a group with Burkina Faso, South Africa and Zambia ; South Africa are currently ranked fourth in the world on the sevens circuit and will play Nigeria in their opening fixture, with the pool stage schedule listed below (all times are GMT) :
7:06 AM – Nigeria vs South Africa
9:28 AM – Nigeria vs Burkina Faso
12:12 PM – Nigeria vs Zambia
Other nations competing at this edition of the Africa Mens Sevens include Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Tunisia, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire and host nation Mauritius, with the winner receiving a spot on the SVNS Challenger Series, the tier below the World 7s Series.
