A look at the season in statrs for the Saints

It was a very successful season for Old Priorians Saints, winning the Middlesex Merit Table Division 2 title to ascend to Division 1 ; let's look at some of the statistics that made up the 2021/22 campaign

APPEARANCES

The 2nd XV played markedly less games than the 1st XV – thirteen games in all – and it is Cian McBride (voted the Saints Player of the Season) who leads the way in terms of appearances, turning out eleven times for the team. He is closely followed by front rower Daniel Moore with ten games played, whilst James Porter, Arnaud Maltoff and Noah Longley all made nine appearances each.

A total of 78 players took to the pitch for the Saints, 16 of those making five appearances or more.

As with the Twisters, there were no drop goals during 2021/22. We now take a look at some of the individual scorers.

INDIVIDUAL POINTS

McBride is way out ahead in the individual points stakes, amassing 116 points in his eleven games, from 3 tries, 43 conversions and 5 penalty kicks ; this is a full 66 points in front of second placed Tomas Wood, who scored 50 points from ten tries. Kimen Nyam is in third (40 points, 8 tries), with Noah Longley and Carlos Gomez-Rose both on 30 (6 tries each).

Tries made up 75% of the points, conversions 20% and penalties the remaining 5%.

There were three hat-tricks this season, two of which were claimed by winger Kimen Nyam, one on the opening day 45-21 win against Hammersmith and Fulham and the other coming in a 45-22 victory over Wasps in January ; Andrew Wilkie also managed the feat against Feltham in late November, the final score 53-0.

Now we take a look at Points Per Game.

POINTS PER GAME

Using a weighted metric, who else but McBride for yet another chart topper? An impressive season with the boot powered him to 10.54 PPG, with 116 points from 11 games. Next in line is Saints top try scorer Tomas Wood, amassing a PPG of 6.25 – 50 points from 8 games. In third is Kimen Nyam (5.71 PPG, 40 points from 7 games), then Noah Longley with 3.33 PPG (30 points from 9 games), and in fifth is Ravi Joshi on 3.12 PPG (25 points from 8 games).

An unweighted PPG would see Andrew Wilkie at the top, scoring a hat trick in his only game for the 2nd XV for a PPG of 15, with John Bordiss also making a sole appearance that garnered two tries for a PPG of 10. An honourable mention should go to Carlos Gomez-Rose – the hooker scoring 6 tries in 54 games for a PPG of 7.5.
